After a helluva a year (the technical term for 2020), we were so pleased and honored to see four of our beloved titles featured in Library Journal’s Best Books 2020 Lists! Here’s hoping it’s a good omen for the promise of 2021! Now, let’s see what our friends at Library Journal had to say about their selections:
LJ POP FICTION: SAVING RUBY KING by Catherine Adel West: A beautiful debut that expertly balances complicated themes of secrets, family, love, and forgiveness, as well as the weight of generational pain and suffering. The multiple points of view, including congregants from the Calvary Hope Christian Church and the building itself, add layers of nuance and richness to an already incredible narrative.
LJ ROMANCE: HERE TO STAY by Adriana Herrera: Queens native Julia Ortiz follows her heart to Dallas and is dumped. Rebounding and finding her dream job, she has a supportive group of friends and a loving Puerto Rican/Dominican family back home. Enter sexy new hire Rocco Quinn, tasked with reorganizing the company before it goes public, in this “sizzling enemies-to-lovers romance that deftly charts the struggles of finding love and friendship in unexpected places.”
LJ ARTS: MADE MEN: The Story of Goodfellas by Glenn Kenny: Kenny probes Martin Scorsese’s decidedly unsentimental tale of New York gangsters, emerging with details on everything from the title cards to the soundtrack, along with breathtaking insights into why this work still matters 30 years later. As enthralling as the movie it chronicles, this volume raises the bar for film analysts.
SLJ NONFICTION: YOU TOO?: 25 Voices Share Their #MeToo Experiences edited by Jane Gurtler: Authors detail their experiences of sexual harassment, trauma, exploitation, and assault in this revelatory, empowering collection that emphasizes speaking up and the importance of the support and community that many have found in the #MeToo movement.
Happy holidays to you and yours. Thank you for reading with us.
See you next year,
